A Passion Is Born: How My Birthday Started My Graphic Design Journey
On World Design Day, Ibrahim Fathy shares how a meaningful birthday became connected to his professional journey in graphic design.
A date with a special meaning
My birthday, 27 April, coincides with World Design Day. Over time, that connection became a reminder that design was not only a job for me, but also the creative path I wanted to build.
My journey
Ibrahim Fathy began working in graphic design in 2011. Years of study, experimentation, and client work developed that interest into a professional practice focused on logos, visual identities, advertising, print, and social media design across several Arab markets.
Why professional design matters
Design shapes the first impression of a business. It can build trust, clarify a message, strengthen marketing, and help a brand stand apart from its competitors.
Advice for new designers
- Study design principles, not software commands alone.
- Practise regularly and finish complete projects.
- Build a portfolio even before working with real clients.
- Observe new tools and trends without losing your own judgement.
- Listen carefully to the problem behind every brief.
World Design Day is a celebration of the people who turn ideas into useful visual communication, and it continues to remind me why this journey matters.
